ROSEMARY WATKINS: TWO-DAY WORKSHOP: THERAPY WITH DISTRESSED COUPLES Friday & Saturday 13 & 14 March 2026

This Two-Day Workshop, facilitated by ROSEMARY WATKINS, is for professionals exploring Couples Therapy whereby Couples are experiencing significant levels of distress connected to the Relationship itself. The workshop also explores Couples’ relationships within a context of ‘the science behind the changes in the brain’ that occurs in social relationships.
The focus is mainly one of ‘exploration’ & ‘discussion’ in context of some role-play and reflection on the concepts and their application to the real world of therapy. Rosemary will draw on the work of Mario Mikulincer, Jim Coan, Susan Johnson and Alan Carr, amongst others.
Therapists can learn to:
• Identify negative patterns of interaction and how they are maintained
• Manage heightened emotional reactivity
• Identify the common unmet needs underpinning the distress.
• Identify and work with resistance and defensiveness
• Identify and assist couples to work with the influence of early attachment styles
• Understand the brain changes that occur in social relationships
• Recognise boundary issues (including risk of therapist triangulation)
• Engage in self-care

Rosemary has facilitated this workshop numerous times over the past two decades in Perth and overseas. Some Comments from previous workshop participants:
“The content was so interesting that time flies. I wish there would be another one or two more days of this workshop”.
“Understanding attachment styles and FOO dynamics helps me to look into my own background and it helps to facilitate how I could assist the client to resolve their current situation. It is reassuring that we are in no position to change anyone”.
“The demonstration by Rosemary really helps to bring all the concepts and theories being taught to life”.
“Perfect for my ‘distressed couples’ and those encountering infidelity”
“Excellent workshop, very relevant to my work and Process focussed”.
“I have avoided taking on couples due to lack of confidence. I now feel confident to think about Couples work”
“Will definitely help me with my work with couples in distress, especially in being more aware of reasons behind reactions and how to manage couple sessions”
