This Level I course provides an introduction to Systems Theory and its application to therapy with families and couples. Research in Family Therapy / Systemic Therapy has shown effectiveness in working with families, couples and individuals. This is an experiential workshop. The skills learnt during the week can then be readily implemented in their ongoing work with families, couples and also individuals.
AIMS: This workshop will cover the followin areas:

| Exploring communication skills of Therapist & Clients | How to encourage “complainants” and “visitors” in the therapy room to become “clients” or “customers” |
LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
| Have a sound understanding of Systemic Theory and its application in therapy | Develop clear ideas about how to pursue therapy after the assessment |
| Do a thorough assessment of a couple and a family in therapy | Improve your ability to work with Couples, Families & Individuals |
| Implement communication skills in your therapy | Be able to use systemic ideas in your therapy |
| Engage clients & enhance motivation for change in therapy | Implement skills-based ideas from the workshop in Individual, Couple & Family Therapy |
Throughout the week, you will explore your role as a therapist, make use of role plays and simulations, review video tapes of interviews and work with/observe ‘live’ interviews. Time will be allocated for discussion of practical and theoretical issues in therapy.
