ALDO GURGONE is a Clinical Psychologist & Director of the William Street Family Therapy Centre (Mount Lawley, Western Australia). He has worked in Australia, the UK, Italy, South East Asia and South America, and has conducted Supervision and Training Courses in Family & Relationship Therapy for over 45 years.
Workshop: “Working Systemically: Tailoring Therapy to the Needs of Clients”
When you see clients, individually or couples or families, the risk is to think about “Individual Therapy”, or “Couple Therapy”, or “Family Therapy”, as if they are distinct and separate forms of treatment. Whilst you may have trained in a particular approach to therapy, does it then mean that you only work in that particular way with each client/s that enter your therapy room?
This workshop will explore ways in which you can firstly “meet” your client/s and then obtain a systemic understanding of who they are, why they have come to therapy, and what they want from therapy. Then it is important to develop an understanding from what the client/s have given you, and to reflect it back, in offering therapy which fits with their stated goals. Irrespective of the approach you take, the therapy you provide needs to be tailored to the needs of the clients. This workshop will explore interesting and creative ways to work systemically, and to offer clients therapy which they experience as relevant to their needs and goals.
